Ads in 2014: Our Loves and Hates!
2014 saw some memorable campaigns from the major sports events with Sochi in the early winter and the World Cup in the summer to the annual events, awards and celebrations with some ground breaking Christmas campaigns.
Here’s a list of some of the campaigns we have loved and hated from 2014:
Loves – Sainsbury’s ‘Christmas is for Sharing’
“I think it positions Sainsbury’s as a British institution (a la M&S, John Lewis) rather than just a supermarket, plus it goes beyond being tied up in a consumerist Xmas.”
Hates – Confused.com’s ‘Brian The Robot’ campaign
“I don’t find the robot very likeable.”
Loves – Rugby World Cup 2015 ‘Team Talk’
“Easily the best advert of the year to promote the upcoming Rugby World Cup, absolutely superb! Makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck! Fantastic, makes me proud to be a rugby fan”
Hates – Iceland ‘Peter Andre Campaign’
“I don’t think anyone would believe that Peter Andre shops at Iceland!”
But he has since admitted on Celebrity Juice that it was embarrassing to be their brand ambassador!
Loves – Argos’ ‘Get Set For Instant Pick Up’
“I liked the rebranding for Argos TV commercials, great music selection and so different from what the brand has done before.”
Hates – Oak Furniture Land
“This was the worst for me, unfortunately there were just toooo many….”
Hates – Colgate’s ‘ProClinical® A1500 Electric Toothbrush Advert’
“That vibration noise gets the attention of everyone in the room as they look for their phones, before quickly realising it’s the TV. It’s totally intentional on their part – very clever, but really annoying!”
Loves – Honda’s ‘The Other Side’
To be fair, we all loved this one but it was spotted by Stewart, the clever video tells two sides of the same story which can be simultaneously viewed in the same video.
